How To Make a Torneando un trompo (turning a top)

Two or three days ago, I decided to revive my "poor man's lathe", for which I made some small accessories, as detailed in the last step of that instructable, added today. I decided to make, within other things, a top as those I used in my childhood, in times of Río de la Plata Viceroyalty.

How To Make Home made turbo Jet

Intro : Home made turbo Jet

Hi and welcome, in this instructable we will go through how i made a turbo jet. This is in minimal detail if you would like more detail and photos please visit my website: http://thejetman.webs.com/

Before we begin as you probably know Propane and LPG are flammable gases so be extremely careful and turbo jets can back fire or explode in certain cases. I am not liable if you or any person or your property are hurt or damaged if you try to build this.

Now for the fun stuff.

Intro : miniSADbot - outdoor edition

This miniSADbot was created for the Kickstarter backers who supported the original SADbot exhibit that Ben Leduc-Mills and I created.  Thank you!  Here you will learn what to do with the kit of parts we sent you.  If you didn't back the project but still want to make one, a full parts list is included.  There's not much to it so it's an easy first solar project.

How To Make a Wind Powered Generator

Intro : wind powered generator

To begin with , i always liked to see windmills and stuff that works with the wind and so i tried to make something on my own . In the begining I just made a small wind turbine with no other purpose but to spin freely . Then I thought why not making something that can use the wind energy and convert it to electricity , so I ended up making a wind powered generator ....

After some research on the internet i found a lot of ideas to start and since it was summer i had plenty of time to spend on it.

Upcycle your old PC fans into mini wind generators

Intro : Upcycle your old PC fans into mini wind generators

Have stacks of old computer equipment gather dust ? Now you can put some of it to use! This instructable shows you how to use PC fans as mini wind generators for recharging solar lights and ni-cads. You'll need some basic soldering skills, but this is otherwise a very easy project. My little wind generator makes around 1.5 - 2V in a 8mph wind, about 20ma into a ni-cad. This wasn't a huge success, I'd hoped to get a little more power out of it.

Materials needed:

Thick plastic bottle.
Old PC fan, bigger the better!
A few feet of small wire
A piece of wood about 1.5" square and around 20cm long
Two lengths of steel tubing that slide inside of each other, about 1/2"

4 Schottky diodes, I used BAT85 but any will do
Epoxy
Super Glue.

Zip ties
An old CD

*** Update 26/06/10 It was pointed out to me that the wiring isn't quite right, I had assumed that the 3 legs of the coils are three phase (I don't know why I did!) but it's actually just a centre tap. I've photo-shopped the photo's so that the new wiring makes sense, so if the photo's look dubious, that's why!

Intro : Cheap, good quality Shuriken throwing star

I've searched and searched, but no where could I find instructions on how to make a nice, high quality, amateur throwing star. In this instructable, I will guide you through the process of making a steel shuriken for under 10$ (if you already have the tools).

DISCLAIMER: This is a WEAPON and is not for just throwing around at people, pets etc. It can SERIOUSLY injure or even KILL somebody. The blades are extremely SHARP. I am not responsible for anything that you do with this. If you are foolish enough to throw it at a person or a pet then just stop reading now.
Have fun and BE SAFE!!

How To Make a Lenz2 turbine from recycled materials

Intro : Building a Lenz2 turbine from recycled materials

This is a short instructable showing how I built a small lenz2 turbine from recycled materials.
The Lenz turbine is a type of VAWT designed by Ed Lenz. See here for the full details. There's no generator yet, as I am converting an small induction motor to permanent magnet, this will be covered in another instructable. The turbine is 40 cm diameter and the blades are 35cm tall.

Materials :

An old oil drum
Plywood (I used 12mm, but 18mm would be much better!)
An old rear bike hub
Screws, lots of them. 10 - 12mm pan head and 25mm wood screws
Scraps of 2x6
Piece of mild steel approx 150mm x 30mm x 3mm
Washers to fit bike hub shaft, or thick sheet metal to make tour own.

How To Make a Stop Motion Puppet Pt. 1

Intro : Stop Motion Puppet Pt. 1

This Instructable will be a step-by-step guide, in four parts, on how I am making my first stop-motion animation puppet. Since this is my first attempt, I'm not sure how well it will work. If it works, GREAT! If not, then we will have an instructable on how NOT to make a stop-motion armature.

I will be photographing and documenting each step as I go along in hopes that I will have an in depth guide on how you can create your own armature for your own projects.

The materials used in this project are extremely basic crafting supplies and should be available at most (if not all) craft stores including Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and even WalMart.

Their are many ways of creating a stop motion armature. You can create one completely out of armature wire, which I think would be the easiest method (correct me if I'm wrong), you could make or buy ball-joint armatures out of aluminum and steel. This method is used by professionals as well as hobbyists, but requires more patience and craftsmanship if you wish to make one and quite a bit of money if you want to buy one. The method I'm using seems to fall right in between these two methods. The tools used pretty much everyone either has or has access to, and its a relatively easy build.

How to make a ping pong ball gun

Intro : How to make a ping pong ball gun

Are you tired of office/classroom/backyard wars without any stylish or efficient weapons?

Tired of getting shot with a cheap plastic bb gun that hurts like hell and breaks after 5 shots?

Do you want to shoot your colleagues/friends without having to worry about the danger off hurting them? Do you want to have a gun that will never break and requires extremely little maintenance?

Well then congratulations this instructable is perfect for you. Because today you will learn how to make a ping pong ball gun out of wood!

Allright so as I told you I will show you how to make a ping pong ball gun. I made this gun for classroom- and office-wars but as these guns will last a long while I can imagine that if I get kids even they can still enjoy these great toys :) I must say that I have had alot of fun with this gun and alot of people have already asked me to build them one to. I figure it's mostly because they are tired of getting shot with no means of returning fire but alot of people also admire the simplicity of the gun but at the same time the enormous amounts of fun you can have with it.

As you can hear I'm pretty proud about this gun. It has many advantages to it and almost no disadvantages. It's a great father son project or if your kids are to young to help just to make something  fun and cheap for them to play with. It's also the perfect weapon for any office- or classroom-war. As the name of the gun says it's a gun that shoots ping pong balls. So you really don't have to worry about any danger as a ping pong ball has never hurt anyone. So it's alot safer then a bb gun and is also alot sturdier. Where bb guns are mostly made from little plastic pieces which break easily and render the gun useless my gun is made from a solid piece of wood and all parts are found around the house making it easy to replace something in the (very) unlikely event something should get broken.

It's therefore my believe that this is the perfect gun for any child, teenager or adult who wants to have some harmless fun in the classroom, office or backyard.

This instructable is entered in the "DadCanDo Family Fun" contest so when the time comes for voting and you find this ible to be a winner please vote for me :)

If this instructable was of interest to you it may also interest you that I made a second ible about how to make a clothespin luger rubberband gun. So if you're interested in wooden guns be sure to check that one out to and let me know what you think :)
