How to make Boomerang for indoor/outdoor by EncasedDeat
This originally designed to be indoor, but will work outdoors.
Make an indoor/outdoor boomerang that actually comes back.
I recently bought a three winged boomerang, it is the only boomerang that I have boughten that actually comes back. When I showed it to my friends they all wanted one, but there isn't any stores around here that sell them. I decided to make them copies that work.
If you have all the parts this can be a great day project for all ages.
This boomerang is safe to use in the house because it is made of styrofoam. The final boomerang will weigh only 0.3 ounces (six grams).
This boomerang will only go out about eight to ten feet and come back.
Use this in a large room with no air movement.

If you use this outside make sure there is very little wind. I like to use mine outside best.

You will have to move about a step or two to catch. As the video will show.
This will not come back 100% of the time.

How To Make a CD Spinning Top

Intro : CD Spinning Top

I have a lot of old cds burned with useless files or obsolets OS. The first I though is to throw them to the trash. But they are so brilliant, so colorful and circular; they have pi number in all their diameter!(Did I say I love pi?). And, at the end of the day I don´t know what to do with them. And that's why I have tons(not really) of cds in my bedroom.

But this situation must end right now. May I can make a cd curtain (wait for it) or this project. Actually, I think I should start with something simple but funny. That's how I though in this: a spinning top.

How To Make a PVC Paper Rocket Launcher

Intro : PVC Paper Rocket Launcher

This Instructable covers how to build the portable PVC paper rocket launchers seen at the Phoenix District 2010 Day Camp and at SHAC Jam (the United State's second largest 100th Anniversary of BSA celebration 2010). Paper rockets are an inexpensive and age appropriate activity for any Cub Scouts. It doesn't require an air source other than the cub scout himself. After some pretty hardcore QA testing by upwards of several thousand Cub Scouts (and a few Boy Scouts too), I found a few areas that will need improvement depending on how rambunctious your boys get with the launcher. I've noted them in the first image, so hover over the yellow boxes to learn more.

For our Day Camp, the scouts made construction paper rockets which I will detail in another Instructable. These are simply construction paper wrapped around a short section of 1/2" PVC pipe, taped, and then a nose cone and fins are added.

For SHAC Jam, the scouts followed a similar process, but due to the large (nearly 9000) number of cub scouts, the construction of the rockets was simplified to a basic construction paper tube (wrapped on the same short section of 1/2" PVC) with the nose end taped over, and crepe streamers added for stability. This greatly cuts down on the time to build and allows more scouts to enjoy launching without having to spend as much time building. I will detail this construction in a separate Instructable as well. Those that were at SHAC Jam on Saturday saw that a large number of boys (and siblings too) could make it through the long line in a relatively short time frame due to the basic design.

This design is free to use by anyone for non-commercial use provided attribution is given. If you have ideas on how to make it better, please feel free to comment and I'll add them to a later revision if it is cost effective and improves the design.

If you like this design, and feel inclined to show your appreciation, by all means buy me a cup of coffee here , and it'll give me some pep to come up with more PVC and Scouting related projects. As always thank you for taking the time to take a look at this.

The Airsoft AEG Buying Guide

Intro : The Airsoft AEG Buying Guide

With the growing popularity of airsoft it seems that every player is an "expert" on buying gear, guns, ammo, etc.

The problem is that many of these buying guides rely on poor research, lack of understanding on how airsoft guns operate (people that make the argument that airsoft barrel extensions muffle a considerable amount of sound... -_- ).

I've been playing airsoft for about three years spending most of my free time doing research on most everything in the airsoft world.

I'm hoping that this guide will strongly influence your decision on purchasing an AEG. This is my first instructable, so I'll do my best to effectively communicate my thoughts and ideas.

NOTE: This is in no way a guide for purchasing real guns, nor are any of my suggestions even viable for real weapon use. This guide is for airsoft only.

How To Make a Wind Powered Generator

Intro : wind powered generator

To begin with , i always liked to see windmills and stuff that works with the wind and so i tried to make something on my own . In the begining I just made a small wind turbine with no other purpose but to spin freely . Then I thought why not making something that can use the wind energy and convert it to electricity , so I ended up making a wind powered generator ....

After some research on the internet i found a lot of ideas to start and since it was summer i had plenty of time to spend on it.

Upcycle your old PC fans into mini wind generators

Intro : Upcycle your old PC fans into mini wind generators

Have stacks of old computer equipment gather dust ? Now you can put some of it to use! This instructable shows you how to use PC fans as mini wind generators for recharging solar lights and ni-cads. You'll need some basic soldering skills, but this is otherwise a very easy project. My little wind generator makes around 1.5 - 2V in a 8mph wind, about 20ma into a ni-cad. This wasn't a huge success, I'd hoped to get a little more power out of it.

Materials needed:

Thick plastic bottle.
Old PC fan, bigger the better!
A few feet of small wire
A piece of wood about 1.5" square and around 20cm long
Two lengths of steel tubing that slide inside of each other, about 1/2"

4 Schottky diodes, I used BAT85 but any will do
Epoxy
Super Glue.

Zip ties
An old CD

*** Update 26/06/10 It was pointed out to me that the wiring isn't quite right, I had assumed that the 3 legs of the coils are three phase (I don't know why I did!) but it's actually just a centre tap. I've photo-shopped the photo's so that the new wiring makes sense, so if the photo's look dubious, that's why!
